So I've decided to come up with a list on what I think are the top 8 time wasters on the internet... what's sad is that I've spent many a day on most of these sites, and I can tell you that I have gotten absolutely nothing out of them!
8. Yetisports - The site with several minigames involving yetis, penguins, albatrosses, flamingoes, and many more exciting animals that got quite bored from their uneventful lives. What a way to spend a few hours every day! With highly addictive, pointless games, you're gonna love and hate this website.
7. Hold The Button - Well this is quite self explanatory... you have to see how long you can keep the button held down. :| The longest time in the last 7 days is 6d, 23hr, 59min, 59.05sec.. sounds like someone's a little desperate to appear on an online high scores list. Too bad they remain anonymous to everyone though! I can say that this website must be the most pointless of my top 8 and luckily, it is one that I haven't spent much time on.
6. Random Fun Facts - This website's great if you want to know that "Dentists have recommended that a toothbrush be kept at least 6 feet away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush." And then, by one click of the refresh button, you can discover that "There are only four words in the common English language that end in "-dous": tremendous, horrendous, stupendous, and hazardous." There have been some times when I have refreshed this page over 20 times! None of the facts stayed in my head an hour later though... I wonder what a high score list for "times page is refreshed" would look like here. If you're one of those people who like these kind of facts and maybe can even make a witty pick-up line out of them, then this site is definitely for you!
5. Failblog - If learning about random, pointless facts isn't enough to cure your boredom, why not watch videos of people falling out of trees and attempting to jump from one roof to another....and not making it. If you're that bored, you can watch these videos of people getting owned to make you feel better. There's pages and pages of fail videos to keep you up all night.
4. I-Am-Bored - I can tell you that this website has become extremely popular because they know that people will always get to that stage when they have nothing to do and type "I am bored" into their google searchbar. C'mon, I know you've done it before, I surely have! This site is sure to cure your boredom... and waste all your time. Every day, they add new pics, videos, and other cool websites that will waste your time. I've actually found about 2 or 3 of the websites on my list through i-am-bored.com. So not only does this site waste hours of your time, but it also leads you to other websites which waste more hours of your time!
3. Runescape - I couldn't leave this out. The biggest online MRPG (multiplayer role-playing game) in the world! Quests, skills, money, fighting, bad graphics, cooking, smithing... This has to be the site that I've spent the most time on, more than any other site, and I achieved nothing from it! I'm just glad I didn't get sucked into paying $10 a month to become a member.
2. Youtube - What can I say about YouTube? It's got EVERYTHING! It's too bad the majority of people use it as a time waster and watch Justin Beiber getting hit in the head with a bottle over and over and over again (That was actually pretty funny though :D).
There's countless video logs that are put on YouTube every day so that we, the viewers, can follow other people's lives because we're so guilty we can't live our own. People like Fred, Shane Dawson, Shaytards get over a million views every day!
Man, YouTube is addictive though. I watch a video, see another video on the "related videos" list that looks good, watch that video, see another video on the "related videos" list that looks even better, every time thinking I'm only gonna watch one more. This can go on for hours, especially when it's past midnight!
1. Facebook - Yep, you knew it was coming. It's how people interact with each other these days. Not only teenagers, but grandmothers, children, and even the occasional dog can be found on it! If you're not on it, you seriously have not been awake for the last 3 years.
How exactly are we using facebook though? I don't know about you, but I'm on facebook AT LEAST two or three a day, sometimes I just sit there refreshing my live news feed to see what my facebook friends have been up to in the last few seconds (If I'm the only one who does that, then this is quite embarrassing...). Facebook is the place where I get to read about the complaints of some person I met a year ago and decided to add on facebook to get my friend count up... even though I have never seen them since. It's the place where I get 53 notifications on a status just because I liked it. It's the place where the most serious, ongoing issue is "We need a dislike button!"
It's quite depressing that my whole day revolves around Facebook, when I get more excited over a wall post than a day out with friends, or when writing "hbd" on friends' walls becomes the new way of writing birthday cards.
I'm speaking for myself when I say that I need to get out and enjoy my life rather than liking photo albums and status comments! So much of my time has been wasted just by going down my news feed to reach the spot where I last logged off (Yes, I really do that). What's worse, I do this every day! So if you update your status or upload a photo album at any time of the day, you can be sure that I will eventually come across it. :)
So, that's my top 8 time wasters on the internet. I hope by reading this you will never go on these sites (except for YouTube and Facebook :) ). They will drain your life before your eyes and, before you know it, you will be 60 years old and still trying to sell all your dragonhide armour on Runescape.
SON I LOVE IT!!!!...i was like...wow my son's a writer!! and, just some motherly advice, deffinitly do NOT play that hold the button game thing....sigh....teen-agers these days!!!

ReplyDeleteAnother one to add to the list could be Wikipedia - following links from one topic to another and ending up, 3 hours later, somewhere a long way from where you started.
It's actually educational though, so you have something to show at the end of it!
Yep that's why it's not a time waster and hence not on this list :P ....you actually learn stuff from it
